When I launched A Bite of Good in 2020, I started with a small line of handcrafted spice blends - just twelve flavors, if I remember correctly. In the 3+ intervening years, I've created another three dozen or so spice blends plus several other product lines, including hot drink mixes, soup mixes, cookie/brownie mixes, and, most importantly for the purpose of this post, cocktail kits.
An excellent gift for any occasion, my cocktail kits are glass Mason jars filled with a selection of dehydrated seasonal fruit, herbs, spices, and/or flowers, along with bitters- or triple sec-infused demerara sugar cubes. My cocktail kits do not themselves contain any alcohol. Rather, the user provides their own, filling the jar with the appropriate wine and/or spirit and/or fruit juice and steeping it for a period of time to rehydrate the contents and infuse the liquid with all the lovely flavors. Once steeped, the user simply strains the contents over ice for the perfect seasonal cocktail.
What started as a Sangria, a Margarita, and an Old Fashioned in late 2020 has expanded to eleven different flavors which I now organize and make available according to the seasonality of their ingredients. Winter Warmers - Available December through February
Old Fashioned: Made with Dehydrated Oranges, Dehydrated Cherries, Bitters-Infused Demerara Sugar Cubes. Fill the jar with your favorite whiskey (I like bourbon or rye).
Seaside Citrus: Made with Dehydrated Lime, Dehydrated Ruby Grapefruit, Triple Sec-Infused Sugar, and Flaky Sea Salt. Fill the jar with grapefruit juice and your choice of spirit. Tequila makes it a Paloma, mescal makes it a Smoky Paloma, and vodka makes it a Salty Dog.
Spiced Sangria: Made with Dehydrated Orange, Dehydrated Apple, Dried Cranberries, Ceylon Cinnamon Stick, Star Anise, Cloves, and Triple Sec-Infused Sugar. Fill the jar with a bottle of dry red wine or, if you prefer a non-alcoholic version, apple cider. For a comforting hot drink on a chilly night, heat it on the stovetop or in a slow cooker for a perfect Mulled Wine or Cider.
Spring Sensations - Available March through May
Lavender Lemon Dream: Made with Dehydrated Lemon, Lavender, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with lemon juice and your choice of vodka or gin for a slightly tart, floral sipper perfect for a Spring afternoon.
Magenta Isle: Made with Dehydrated Lime, Dehydrated Pineapple, Hibiscus Petals, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with pineapple juice and your choice of tequila, vodka or rum. The resulting magenta-hued cocktail is the stuff of Springtime dreams.
Strawberry Rose Sangria: Made with Dehydrated Orange, Dehydrated Strawberries, Rose Petals, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with a bottle of dry white or rosé wine for a fruity and delicately floral cocktail.
Summer Sizzlers - Available June through August
Boozy Sweet Tea: Made with Dehydrated Lemon, Dehydrated Nectarine, Dehydrated Peach, Organic Black Tea, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with bourbon and water for a perfect Summer sipper.
Spicy Cali: Made with Dehydrated Lime, Dehydrated Orange, Dehydrated Tangerine, California Chiles, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with orange and/or lime juice and your choice of tequila, mescal, vodka, or rum. Your Summer just got hotter!
Stone Fruit Sangria: Made with Dehydrated Orange, Dehydrated Peach, Dehydrated Nectarine, Dried Cherries, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with a dry white or rosé wine and let the flavors of Summer shine.
Fall Flavors - Available September through November
Old Fashioned: Made with Dehydrated Oranges, Dehydrated Cherries, Bitters-Infused Demerara Sugar Cubes. Fill the jar with your favorite whiskey (I like bourbon or rye). That's right. The Old Fashioned is available during both Fall AND Winter!
Globe Trotting Mule: Made with Dehydrated Lime, Dried Ginger Slices, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with lime juice and your choice of spirit. Vodka makes it a Moscow Mule, tequila makes it a Mexican Mule, bourbon makes it a Kentucky Mule, and gin makes it a Bombay Mule. Talk about a trip around the world!
Hibiscus Sangria: Made with Dehydrated Orange, Dehydrated Apple, Dehydrated Lemon, Dried Cherries, Hibiscus Petals, and Triple Sec-Infused Demerara Sugar. Fill the jar with a dry red wine for a perfect Autumn sipper.
